![]() Total cost to be up and (sort of)running? $55 plus shipping.ĭo you guys think this old welder is worth it or should I look elsewhere? Keep in mind this is a hobby that I don't have a lot of time or money to spend on now. Total cost of getting this $30 welder up and running? I'm guessing $175.Īnother option I'm considering is a 45-100 amp, 220V stick welder from Homier with a $5 flip-front hood. Fortunately, the welder will be sitting directly below my electric subpanel. And I need to add the 220V breaker and an outlet in my shop. So I'll need to buy 50 feet of cable, a work clamp, an electrode holder, and two plugs to go into the machine. Are all welding cable connections a standard type of plug, or are there any proprietary types out there (particularly on an old machine like this one)? Since this does not come with cables, I'll need to buy or make some up. Will I just burn through with this stick welder? I doubt I'll be working with anything thicker than 1/4". My question, is what is the low range of this unit? Some of the material I've been experimenting with is 1/16 to 1/8" thick. ![]() The guy selling it sent a small picture, it doesn't really show the taps well. I have been learning O/A welding for about 6 months, working on small projects around the house. ![]() $30 is the asking price for the machine with nothing else. (place I bought it said they would but I would like to hear it from Lincoln)Īnd now that I have an actual MIG welder, my post count is going to go way up with dumb questions.I'm thinking about buying an old Marquette Redi-Arc welder. I will call Lincoln and see if they will honor the warranty. (Then there is the thing are Italian amps the same size as American amps? Chinese ones seem to be kinda small), I know I am trading off some top end power ,(130 vs 140 amps), for adjustablity but I hope I am less likely to burn though stuff this way. Granted that may have had more to do with marketing than anything else. One of the things I want to do is body work, I know the Marquette stuff was sold to auto shops and the like. (thats not listed in the manual but the welder has it). One other neat feature of the Marquette is that you can switch polarity by just flipping a switch. Right now I have a $88 HF flux core job with 2 settings, too much and not enough. This manual contains information such as the Important Safety Instructions, Usage and Maintenance of your plasma cutter. The consumables seem to all be standard tweeco, thats a plus.įWIW, sure the price had a lot to do with it, but the other thing was 7 voltage taps instead of 4. It is one of the ones that NAPA sold so that may give me another lead. ![]() I managed to get a new M12183 at such a good deal that I am willing to play hide and seek if it comes to it. ![]()
